Navy Rises Another Spot in The Coaches Poll - Hits #11 !!

It happened. "Duke knocked down the champ." Virginia no longer has the pressure of the undefeated season hanging over their heads. The ACC tournament is going to be a knock-down affair. Duke-Virginia-Maryland-North Carolina Wow - that's going to be a pretty good tournament. They could easily end up with four NCAA tournament bids come out of that tournament.

Princeton, based on a victory over Syracuse a week ago, rose to the top of the poll, although two coaches still picked Virginia.

Now Notre Dame is the only remaining undefeated team, and they have now moved up to #3. The Irish survived a scare on Saturday from unranked Denver. Denver tied the score at 8 with two minutes remaining, then had the ball on offense, but could not pull out the victory. Notre Dame went on to score two goals to close out their 10th win.

Many fans are starting to divine the NCAA brackets (okay - guess, because the Tournament Committee holds great latitude), and people are saying that Notre Dame will probably host a Tournament game.

Both Syracuse and Cornell are fighting for upstate NY supremacy - and nipping at the heels of the Fighting Irish - tied at #4 with 149 points compared to 152 for Notre Dame.

UMBC at #6 is still the top-ranked team in Maryland and Hofstra at #7 represents Long Island.

The state of North Carolina is well represented with Duke at #8 and UNC at #10.

The game is truly becoming diverse when the Maryland monopoly doesn't begin until Hopkins - Navy - Maryland at #9, #11 and #12 respectively.

Navy's win over Army and Hopkins squeaking by Maryland only a week after Navy pasted the Terps, finally caused the voters to begin to acknowledge Navy's accomplishments so far this season.

Colgate moved up to #13, only one point behind Maryland after another victory this weekend. The voters are starting to recognize that Colgate is 9-3, with their three losses being to UMBC, Duke and North Carolina by a total of 5 goals.

Colgate's upcoming match-up against #18 Bucknell will decide who hosts the Patriot League tournament. An end-of-season tilt against Syracuse looks to be Colgate's big hurdle after the Bucknell gamel

Villanova inexplicably rose back into the poll with an 8-4 record after a loss to Drexel over the weekend. Other losses include Sacred Heart and Penn State. Maybe the big mid-week win over Towson swayed the voters.
