Seven Midshipmen Garner All-Patriot League Mens Lacrosse Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. Seven members of the 11th-ranked Navy men's lacrosse team were named to the 2009 All-Patriot League Team announced Tuesday, including senior defensive midfielder Geoff Leone (Massapequa, N.Y.) who picked up his third All-Patriot League nod in the last four seasons. Navy accounted for seven of the 27 spots among the first and second teams, including three first-team selections.

First-Team All-Patriot League
Patrick Moran - Jr., M, Annapolis, Md. (Severn School); 2008, '09 First-Team All-Patriot League

Navy's fourth-leading scorer and top out of the midfield, Moran received First-Team All-Patriot League honors for the second straight year. The second-year starter has scored a goal in 12 of the 13 contests, including multi-goal efforts against conference foes Lehigh, Holy Cross and Colgate. Additionally, Moran is coming off his second career hat trick, leading the Midshipmen with three goals last weekend against No. 9 Johns Hopkins. As was the case a year ago, he has played an instrumental role in the success of the Mids' extra-man unit. He has leant his keen eye to six of the Mids 14 extra-man goals, punching in five while assisting on a sixth.

Geoff Leone - Sr., DM, Massapequa, N.Y. (Massapequa); 2008, '09 First-Team All-Patriot League, '07 Second-Team All-Patriot League

Andy Tormey - Sr., D, Syracuse, N.Y. (Christian Brothers Academy); 2009 First-Team All-Patriot League

For years Navys staple has been fielding one of the stingiest defensive units in the country. Despite its youth, head coach Richie Meade did a fine job of developing yet another defensive squad that has been ranked among the top 10 the entire season. Two players in particular that he relied upon were short stick defensive midfielder Geoff Leone (Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior close defenseman Andy Tormey (Syracuse, N.Y.), who were honored by the league as first-team members.

Ranked No. 5 in the country in scoring defense, Navy has surrendered 93 goals over 13 games and is the highest-ranked program in the Patriot League. The Mids have held 11 of their 13 opponents to single digits this season, including Maryland and Army who were both held to a season-low four goals in losses to Navy. In conference action, the Mids surrendered a league-low 44 goals and produced a 7.33 goals-against average. Additionally, both Tormey and Leone are among Navys man-down defense that has surrendered just five goals in 35 attempts (.857) to rank No. 1 in the country.

Tormey not only serves as Navys team captain, he has received numerous honors over the course of the season, including being named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List along with being named one of 10 finalists for the Lowes Senior CLASS Award. The second-year starter and first-time recipient of All-Patriot League recognition leads Navy in caused turnovers with 21 and is second in ground balls with 32.

Leone, meanwhile, has been spectacular in his senior campaign, playing both ways for the Mids. In addition to shutting down some of the premier players in the country, he has also played a role for the Mids on the scoreboard. He has punched in three goals this spring, including a career-high two against Georgetown, while providing three assists. Leone is second on the team in caused turnovers, forcing 15 to date.

Second-Team All-Patriot League
Tim Paul - Jr., A, Parkton, Md. (Loyola Blakefield); 2008, '09 Second-Team All-Patriot League

Pacing Navy with 30 points on 17 goals and 13 assists, Paul received Second-Team All-Patriot League kudos for a second consecutive year. Despite missing the last two games due to an injury, he ranks 35th in the country in assists per game (1.18), 60th in points per game (2.73) and 88th in goals per game (1.55). He has turned in either a goal or an assist in 10 of the 11 games he has played in this season and 32 of the 42 games during his career. He has scored two or more goals in 22 of the 42 games over his three-year career, including seven times this season. Paul also led the Mids in scoring in conference play, producing 14 points on eight goals and six assists.

Paul, who has reached 30 points for the second straight year and was among the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, recorded his fourth-collegiate hat trick when he paced the Mids with three goals and an assist in their one-goal loss to nationally-ranked North Carolina in the third week of the season. His five-point effort against Lafayette was a personal high that was later matched in Navy's win over Georgetown. He was personally involved in each of Navys final four goals in a 10-8 win, scoring a pair of goals while providing the assist on the other two goals.

Joe Lennon - Jr., M, Westminster, Md. (Loyola Blakefield); 2009 Second-Team All-Patriot League

One of Navy's three first-team All-Patriot League honorees, Lennon paired up with Patrick Moran to form one of the most proficient midfields in the conference. Lennon comes from a strong lacrosse bloodline that produced Clipper Lennon ('05), a former All-Patriot League defensive midfielder for the Midshipmen, along with Bobby Lennon (Westminster, Md.), a senior at the Academy who is a part of the Mids nationally-ranked defensive squad as a shorty.

Joe Lennon has turned in 15 points on nine goals and six assists and featured a pair of goals against league foes Bucknell and Colgate. He was also credited with the game-winner in the Star Game against Army two weeks ago. Additionally, he dealt out a career-high three assists in the Mids season-opener against VMI.

Frankie Coppola - Jr., FO, Bethesda, Md. (Georgetown Prep); 2009 Second-Team All-Patriot League

Over the last six years, Navy has produced some of the premiere faceoff men in the game beginning with Chris Pieczonka in 2004, followed by William Wallace and Mikelis Visgauss and this year Frankie Coppola's (Bethesda, Md.) name was added to the list. After spending most of his first two seasons honing his skills among Navys stable of draw men, Coppola earned his opportunity this spring as the go-to faceoff player for the Mids. He has won 51.3 percent (99-193) of his draws overall and 61.6 percent (69-112) in Patriot League play. In Navys regular-season contest against Colgate, he won a career-high 15 of the 22 draws (.682) he took, marking the first time since April 15, 2006, that a Navy player has won 15 faceoffs. Meanwhile, he won 13 of the 17 faceoffs (.765) he took in the win over Holy Cross, marking a personal best in percentage.

Jaren Woeppel - Jr., LSM, Camillus, N.Y. (West Genesee); 2008, '09 Second-Team All-Patriot League

Once again, Woeppel joined forces with Navys close defense to form one of the most stifling units in the country. While the Mids have given up a shade over seven goals per game, Woeppel has also played a pivotal role in the success of Navys faceoff team. He plays opposite middie Matt Bitter (Manhasset, N.Y.) on the wings of faceoffs where the Mids have won nearly 50 percent of their draws. Along the way he has grabbed 21 ground balls and has forced seven turnovers.

The five major award winners - Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year - will be announced on Wednesday.

Entering the weekend, three of the four teams in the tournament are nationally ranked, including Navy who is No. 11. Joining the Mids are No. 15 Bucknell and No. 17 Colgate.

Navy, meanwhile, continues to prepare for its first-round Patriot League Tournament matchup against second-seeded Colgate on Friday. The Midshipmen, who are in search of their fifth Patriot League Tournament title, will battle the Raiders in the second semifinal beginning at approximately 5:45 pm. Top-seeded Bucknell and No. 4 Army will open tournament play on Friday at 3:00 pm at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa. The Patriot League Championship Game is set for Sunday at 3:00 pm.
