Navy Tops Colgate in Triple OT - 9-8 - Up Next Bucknell !!

Navy won.

Navy advances to play Bucknell, a 10-8 winner over Army earlier today, in the final on Sunday at 3 pm.

The winner on Sunday advances to the NCAA tournament with the Patriot League's Automatic Qualification.

So, how did it go?

Tim Paul '10, hobbled by an ankle injury since the Maryland game, tried to play in the 1st quarter, but he was not 100%.

Matt Vernam '12, our starting freshman defender, singled up on Patriot League Player of the Year, Brandon Corp - and shut him down. Corp had a single goal on an unlikely fast break to end the 1st quarter - scoring with 0:00 on the clock. Other than that play, Corp was ineffective.

The score after one quarter - Navy was down 4-1. Not a good start.

As a matter of fact, the Navy attack did not really mount much of a threat today. Andy Warner '11, scored a goal, but the midfield shouldered the bulk of the scoring today.

Joe Lennon '10 scored both the tying goal with 1:35 remaining in regulation and the winning goal in the third OT - totaling 4 goals in the game to lead all scorers.

Joe's classmates, Patrick Moran '10 (2G) and Basil Daratsos '10 (1G) scored 3 goals and Michael Beggins '09 (#17) scored a goal to round out the scoring.

Tommy Phelan '09 had 10 saves in the victory, but we may need an even better game on Sunday to keep the streak going.

Andy Tormey '09 and Tommy Mansfield '11 started on defense, and Tom Zimmerman '09 came off the bench and played a major portion of the contest.

Geoff Leone '09 and Bobby Lennon '09 were stalwart on short-stick defense, while Zack Schroeder '10 and Jaren Woeppel '10 manned the long-pole position.

Robby Battle '10 had another good day at the face-off X, providing an encore to his successful effort at Hopkins last Saturday. Matt Bitter '09 and the Zack/Jaren LSM tandem scooped a large number of gbs on the wings.

Look for a big offensive effort on Sunday at 3 pm as we take on Bucknell.

Go Navy !!
