San Diego Benefit to Help Families of Navy SEALs !! Benefit to help the families of Navy SEALs to be held Downtown 19 November at Dick's Last Resort in the Gas Lamp Quarter (SAN DIEGO, CA) - On the evening of 19 November, a fundraiser will be held at Dick's Last Resort in the Gas Lamp quarter to benefit the families of the United States Navy SEALs. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., area residents will be able to meet SEALs and enjoy food and drinks with live music supplied by one of San Diego's favorite musical groups. One-hundred percent of the $35.00 per person cover charge will be donated to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation NSWFoundation.org. A live and silent auction featuring patriotic and military items along with sports memorabilia, opportunities to attend professional sports events and weekend vacations will be held during the event. The families of SEALs are a special breed. While SEALs are deployed world wide fulfilling their missions to help protect the country, their specific locations are classified and they have limited communication with their families. The last thing a SEAL needs is to worry about their loved ones when deployed and on the job. Formed for SEALs by SEALs, the NSW Foundation supports the families of SEALs with programs that fill the gap when their loved ones are deployed. Through fundraising and donations, the NSW Foundation has been able to offer scholarships to dependent children and spouses of active duty SEALs. The Foundation also covers the cost of books for active duty SEALs enrolled in college under the Navy Tuition Assistance program. The Foundation's Education with a Foundation program provides computers to the surviving children of personnel killed in training or combat. This program helps ensure that these children are given one resource they need to help them excel in their education. The Foundation also provides numerous health and welfare programs for the SEAL community. According to Bob Rieve, the Foundation's CEO and president, "Our focus for the last year has been on tragedy assistance and family support. Recently LT Dan Cnossen lost both legs below the knees when he stepped into an improvised explosive ordnance trap set by insurgents in Afghanistan. Dan is undergoing surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital and we hope to have him back in San Diego in the near future. On 24 September, Ryan Jobe a SEAL who had lost his eyesight in both eyes when he was wounded during combat operations in Iraq passed away from complications that arose following a major operation. Ryan's wife is pregnant with their first child. The NSW Foundation is there for our families in times of tragedy and loss. The NSW Foundation takes care of airfares, hotels rooms and rental cars for family members, and helps cover the cost of memorial services for our SEAL's killed in combat or training for combat. We provide a food delivery service for the families and provide them with baskets of necessities often overlooked during stressful times. Financial counseling is also available for the widows." Tickets will be sold at the door on the day of the event. Advance tickets are available by calling 619-365-5138 or at the website: SealTeamEvents.com Go Navy !! Buddy Garland '84 |
