Jeff Long '77 Induction into US Lacrosse Hall of Fame - Dinner 11/7 !! Will you be there ??? One the greatest lacrosse players in Navy Lacrosse history and one of our great friends will be inducted into the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame on November 7th in Hunt Valley, MD (north of Baltimore). We should be there in force. Since the formation of NAVYLAX, and the Recognition Committee, led by Tommy Hagan '69 - with all of the current Hall of Fame members as the Committee Members, Navy has placed a "Truly Great Player" in the Hall of Fame every year for the past 4 years. (Mike Coughlin '64, Karl Rippelmeyer '60, George Tracy '63, Jeff Long '77) Jeff Long '77 will be inducted this year. We encourage you to be there to honor Jeff and share the evening with him (in the social atmosphere that only Longman can create. =:-). From the US Lacrosse website, you can read the following: Event Description This black tie optional gathering of the game's "greatest" is the premier US Lacrosse event of the year. It is a celebration to honor the men and women, past and present, whose contribution to the game of lacrosse has been deemed worthy of their induction into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. 2009 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Celebration Event Location The Grand Lodge 304 International Circle Hunt Valley, Maryland 21030 Event Schedule 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. - Reception (cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, open bar) 7:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. - Induction Ceremony 9:15 p.m. - 11 p.m. - Dessert, coffee and after-dinner cordials (open bar) The write-up of Jeff's accomplishments on the US Lacrosse website included: JEFFREY LONG Jeffrey Long (Naval Academy '77) will be inducted as a truly great player. Long played high school lacrosse at Irondequoit (Rochester, N.Y.) where he was a two-time All-American and four-time All-League selectee. At the Naval Academy Long was a three-time All-American (1975, 1976, 1977), and is the school's career leader in total points (233) and assists (149). He set the school's single-season assists record with 53 in 1977. Long was an attackman for the 1978 and 1986 U.S. Men's National Teams, winning a world championship in 1986. He also served as an assistant coach for the 1998 World Champion U.S. Men's National Team. He has been a highly-successful coach at Ithaca College since 1988. Long was inducted into the US Lacrosse Greater Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame (1992) and the United States Naval Academy Hall of Fame (2007). We invite you to join us !! Go Navy !!
