Navy Drops a Tight One to Loyola - 8-7 in OT !!

The weather warmed up a little, but the Navy shooters did not.

RJ Wickham '12 had a stellar day in the cage - stopping 19 Greyhound shots - compared to only 3 saves for the Loyola goalie.

Patrick Moran '10 had another hat trick (his second in two games).

Andy Warner '11 netted two goals and an assist (following last week's hat trick).

Of course, Loyola had one attackman from Connecticut scored six goals, including the OT game-winner. That hurts.

Navy won 12 of 19 face-offs, including the critical one to start the overtime period.

We cleared well - maybe 20 out of 23 (stats showed 19 out of 22).

Turnovers hurt - probably two dozen. (ouch)

We started off slow - tied at 1 at the end of the first quarter.

Down 4-3 at halftime.

Then it went silent. Loyola scored 2 goals to go up 6-3.

Navy rallied with two goals late in the third period, and tied the game at 6 early in the fourth.

Then Loyola went up 7-6, and Navy rallied again to tie the game at 7, going into OT.

Navy had the ball first in OT, but didn't get off a shot. (Although, Navy put a shot on cage later in the overtime - we had a chance to win !)

Loyola outshot Navy, 44-21 - and 27 of Loyola's shots were on cage.

Navy was 2 for 3 on extra-man offense, with Evan Sullivan '10 picking up two assists.

On man-down defense, Navy held Loyola to 1 for 3.

Brendan Connors '10 had a goal. Tim Paul '10 scored. Joe Lennon '10 had an assist.

This was definitely a "growth" game for this 2010 team.

They are trying to find themselves defensively, and only gave up 7 goals in regulation - that is a pretty good effort.

Offensively, it seemed as if the midfield was going to lead the way, but we need more than 7 goals - and more than 21 shots.

Now we have a short week - with North Carolina coming to Navy-Marine Corps Stadium for a televised contest on Thursday night.

Good news - no time to dwell - let's just get better and execute.

All of the pieces are there, we will just put it together on Thursday.

Come on out and support - this is a big game !!

Go Navy !!
