Doug Derocher '92 Lost His Battle With Cancer - Navy Mourns

Chris Cote '91 passed on the following information. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joe Schweitzer '89,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Doug Derocher lost his battle with cancer today at 12:15 at his home surrounded by his family and a couple close friends.

NEW DETAILS INSERTED - KEEP READING

Doug's wake is this Thursday from 5 to 8 at the Desmond Funeral Home on Woodward Ave. www.desmondfuneralhome.com

His memorial service is at 11:00 on Friday at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills. www.ashmi.org You can leave a note to his family on the Desmond website. Click on the tab to the left for obituaries, and then view/sign guestbook.

To let you know how much his time at Navy meant to him, 2 of the 3 pictures on the site are from Navy - one in his lax uniform and the other from his plebe year.

He and I had a lot of conversations this last year, and I can tell you that his year at NAPS and his 2 at the academy were probably some of the most meaningful in his life.

He appreciated all of you and the time that he got to spend with you. He didn't have any regrets, but only fond memories of time spent together. Roach loved playing and hanging out with you all.

Thanks,

Shorte'

I don't have any details yet, but the funeral arrangements are being handled by A.J. Desmond & Sons (desmondfuneralhome.com) and there will be a memorial service sometime later this week at the Academy of Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills (www.ashmi.org ).

I am sure the Desmond website will have more details either later today or tomorrow.

Doug was a great lacrosse player, an amazing character - always had a smile on his face and a joke to be told or played on someone, and most of all he was a great friend.

I am sure you have fond memories meeting Roach on our trip to the island in the spring of '85 when the Rice-Chaminade boys bonded over beers.

He just added to them at NAPS and USNA before leaving school in 90.

He continued to do great things after school starting Custom Homes by Derocher (www.derocher.com ) and was also a father of 2.

I am sure we'll always remember him for his tenacity and determination on the field. He battled on the field and through life - always a champion.

I'll pass more info when I get it.

As far as Phil's pictures, can you send them to me at:

1111 Adams Dr Midland, MI 48642

Thanks,

Shorte'
